Remember when gender referred to men and women, boys and girls
And pronouns included he and his, or she and hers

When they and theirs signaled plurality or unknown gender
Then the APA* reclassified those who were trans altogether

When non-binary described computer programming criteria
And not an identity of gender dysphoria

When Title IX protected women in education and sports
Before transgender athletes challenged it in court

Gender and sexuality convention has been upended
With some demanding English be amended

Agree or not, there’s a lot of imposition of thoughts
Leaving some fraught, and others involved in boycotts

As society struggles to find a consensus on these issues
Don’t let chaos ensue for eschewing others’ views
